Analytic expressions of the distribution function of figure axes of symmetric and asymmetric top molecules under a polarized one‐photon excitation are de rived by the density matrix theory. To prepare maximally aligned reactants, those formulas are useful in stereodynamic experiments when the optical alignment techniques are utilized.
