The effect of some active methylene containing heterocyclic compounds, namely barbituric, thiobarbituric acids and 3‐mehtyl‐1‐phenylpyrazol‐5‐one on α‐cyano‐3,4,5‐trimethoxycinnamonitrile and ethyl α‐cyano‐3,4,5‐trimethoxycinnamate 1a,b was investigated. The structure of the new products was substantiated from their IR, 1 H NMR and mass spectra.
