The mass spectra of 56 arylpyridines were studied under EI conditions. The fragmentations of this series of compounds are relatively simple because of a stable skeleton containing two aromatic rings. The orientations of cleavage of the methoxyl and methoxycarbonyl groups strongly depend on their position on the pyridine ring and can be applied to the differentiation of the isomers.
