Treatment of (η 5 ‐RC 5 H 4 )Fe(CO) 2 I (R=H, Me) with 1, 1′‐bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) in refluxing benzene afforded {[(η 5 ‐RC 5 H 4 )Fe(CO)(η 2 ‐dppf) + I} (R = H, 1a ; R = Me, 1b ), (η 5 ‐RC 5 H 4 )‐Fe(CO)1(η 2 ‐dppf) (2a, 2b), and [(η 5 ‐RC 5 H 4 )Fe(CO)I] 2 (μ,η 2 ‐dppf) ( 3a, 3b ). The same reaction catalyzed by [CpFe(CO) 2 ] 2 produced only 1a and 1b . Compound 1a crystallizes in space group P1 with a = 11.201(4) Å, b = 13.597(4) Å, c = 14.692(5)Å, α = 78.36(3)° β = 83.58(3)°, γ = 75.00(3)°, V = 2112(1) Å 3 , Z = 2 and R F = 0.055.
