Oxidation of the furan cyclopentadienes (2) and (4) with pyridinium chlorochromate gave the cyclopentenones (5) and (6) respectively. Oxidation of the alkyl cyclopentadienes (7a and 7b) also gave the corresponding cyclopentenones (8a and 8b) as the major products.
