A reaction of 8‐bromoguanosine with benzyl disulfide in the presence of tri‐ n ‐butylphosphine in aprotic or protic solvent afforded guanosine instead of 8‐bromo‐5′‐benzylthio‐5′‐deoxyguanosine through an unexpected reductive debromination.
