For a purpose of antineoplastic screening, a series of sulfhydryl‐binding agents, N ‐substituted maleimides was prepared. These compounds were obtained by dehydration of the corresponding maleamic acids under suitable conditions in which the formation of maleisoimide by‐products was prevented, IR and UV spectra, as well as the elemental analyses confirmed the structural assignment of our products, A brief discussion on the preparation of N ‐(2,4‐dinitrophenylamino)maleimide was also given.
