The fatty acids and the unsaponifiable matter in the root oil of Maclura pomifera Raf. were investigated. The root oil was saponified and the following fatty acids were identified: Myristic, oleic, and linolenic acid. Three crystalline substances; lupeol, β‐sitosterol and a new compound were isolated from the unsaponifiable matter of the oil. The NMR, UV and IR spectra of this new compound are reported.
