The chelate compound of germanium with gallein was spectrophotometrically studied in 0.18% dioxane solution. It was found that germanium and gallein formed a stable soluble complex in an acetate buffer of p H 5∼6. The ratio of germanium to gallein was estimated to be 1:2 by Job's continuous variations method. The instability constant of the chelate at 25°C was calculated as (6.13±0.10)×10 −9 at p H 5.56 and (4.24±0.10)×10 −9 at p H 6.15, respectively.
