Iron‐59 with high specific radioactivity was obtained by means of Szilard‐Chalmers process. Enrichment factor of as high as 750 was attained when potassium ferrocyanide was used as target material and was irradiated at a neutron flux of 1.8×10 12 n/sec‐cm 2 for 100 hours. However, a lower factor of 130 was obtained when potassium ferricyanide was used instead. Both precipitation and direct extraction with isopropyl ether in hydrochloric acid solution were employed as means of separation. The relation between irradiation time, enrichment factor and specific activity was also investigated. The radiative decomposition constants of potassium ferrocyanide and ferricyanide were estimated.
