The sorption of radiocesium (Cs‐134) by seven different samples of soil has been studied over a wide p H range (0–14). In general, the sorption is excellent except in the low p H region. The presence of 0.01 N Na + , Mg ++ , Ca ++ , Sr ++ , Ba ++ and Al +++ does not seem to influence either the uptake of radiocesium by, or the extraction of the sorbed radiocesium from, Red soil and Yellow soil.
