Emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride induced by γ‐ray irradiation has been studied. The effects of irradiation time, of emulsifier concentration, of vinyl chloride concentration and of the dose rate have been investigated and discussed. The initial reaction rate ( Rp ) and the degree of polymerization ( P ) were recognized to be proportional to the exponential powers of the value of the emulsifier concentration ( Cs ) as represented in the following formulae in which the exponents were found to be different from those given by Smith and Ewart. The value of Rp was greatly effected by the dose rate ( D ) and it was also found to be proportional to the exponential powers of D as shown in the following formula.
