An improvement has been made in Edinger's method of preparing 8‐mercaptoquinoline. A new method of synthesizing the same compound, which consists of the reduction of quinoline‐ 8 ‐sulfonyl chloride, has been developed. It has been found that the S ‐benzoyl derivative of 8 ‐mercaptoquinoline readily undergoes acoholysis.
