The phenolic part from the essential oil of Chamaecyparis taiwanensis Masamune et Suzuki, extractives of Chamaecyparis formosensis Matsum . and Taiwania cryptomerioides Hay. were studied by using polyamide thin‐layer chromatography. The presence of chamaecin, chamenol, thymol, carvacrol, m ‐isopropylphenol and p ‐cresol in the essential oil of Chamaecyparis taiwanensis Masamune et Suzuki was confirmed. Carvacrol, o‐isopropylphenol, m ‐isopropylphenol, o ‐cresol and p ‐cresol were also detected from extractives of Chamaecyparis formosensis Matsum. The chromatogram of Taiwania cryptomerioides Hay. showed the presence of 12 spots. Among these, the spot with Rf value 0.37 was identified as Taiwanin B and that with Rf . value 0.80 as Taiwanin D .
