It has been found that gallein can be used as an indicator in the direct chelatometric titration of a number of metals. A method based on this fact has been devised for the chelatometric determination of cadmium with disodium salt of EDTA. The optimum p H for the titration was found to be 9.5 to 10. A buffer solution consisting of ammonia and ammonium chloride was used to keep the solution at this optimum p H in the titration. The color of indicator changed from violet to magenta red at the end point. No interference was observed in the presence of a variety of anions and univalent cations.
