Abstract Further studies of partial hydrogenation of thujic acid by Na‐Hg was made. Acid (I) was obtained by using the boric acid buffered water medium. It was quantitatively isomerized to acid (IV) by the treatment with a weak base. Acid (I) and (IV) were identified as 4,4‐dimethylcyclohepta‐2,6‐diene‐carboxylic acid and 4,4‐dimethylcyclohepta‐1, 6‐diene‐carboxylic acid respectively.
