Uranyl perchlorate in aqueous solution containing α‐hydroxy‐ iso ‐butyric acid (HA) and sodium perchlorate was observed at varying pH's. Two reduction waves with half‐wave potentials at −0.22 and −0.95 volts vs. S. C. E ., observed at p H below 3.0, are attributable to the polarographic reductions, UO 2 e→UO 2 + and UO e→UO + , or UOOH + +e→UOOH, while the first wave observed above pH 3.0 or in large excess of HA above pH 2.0, may be attributable to the reduction of UO 2 A + complex and the third wave at −1.2 volt vs. S. C. E . to that of UOA + complex or its dimer. A confirmation for the latter was made by polarographic reduction of uranous sulfate in HA and NaClO 4 solution.
