Zavarin‐Anderson paper chromatographic method was applied to identify the tropolonic constituents in the extracts of heartwood from four species of Formosan Cupresssaceae . The presence of α‐and β‐thujaplicin in Chamaecyparis Taiwanensis, β ‐ thujaplicin in C hamaecy paris formosensis, β ‐ and γ‐ thujaplicin in Libocedrus formosana and α‐ , β ‐ thujaplicin and nootkatin in Juniperus formosana was confirmed.
