N‐p‐Chlorophenyl‐N′, N′‐dimethylurea (CMU) was synthesized by the reaction of p‐chlorophenyl isocyanate with dimethylamine in mono‐chlorobenzene. The yield was 82.17%. p‐Chlorophenyl isocyanate was prepared by heating p‐chlorocarbamyl chloride, which was synthesized by phosgenation of p‐chloroaniline in ethylene chloride. p‐Chlorophenyl carbamyl chloride was crystallized as colorless needles from ethylene chloride.
