Japan is roughly the second largest economy in the world. However, the amount of M&A activity in Japan has been less than in other industrialized countries. And most Japanese M&A has been domestic—Japanese firms acquiring other Japanese companies. But recent changes have created a more favorable environment for corporate restructuring and M&A activity.
