Cover : The fluorescent photomicrographs demonstrate bone remodeling and modeling activity at the femoral neck in ovariectomized cynomolgus monkeys treated with vehicle (top panel) or denosumab (bottom panel) for 16 months. Extensive labeling was evident throughout the proximal femur in the vehicle group, while denosumab greatly reduced trabecular and intracortical remodeling relative to the OVX controls. The insets to the upper right and lower left of each image highlight regions of modeling‐based bone formation on the superior endocortical and inferior periosteal surfaces of the femoral neck, respectively, still evident in both vehicle‐ and denosumab‐treated animals. Labels represent bone formation at month 6 in yellow (tetracycline), month 12 in red (alizarin), and month 16 in green (calcein). (See Ominsky, et al., “Sustained Modeling‐Based Bone Formation During Adulthood in Cynomolgus Monkeys May Contribute to Continuous BMD Gains With Denosumab,” p 1285 in this issue).
