As nature‐created photonic crystals, diatoms possess fascinating optical properties that can be harnessed for many applications. We adopt diatoms to enhance surface plasmon resonances of metal nanoparticles and increase the sensitivity of surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). In this study, a sandwich SERS immunoassay is developed based on the diatom‐plasmonic nanostructured materials functionalized with goat anti‐mouse IgG, which improves the detection limit of mouse IgG by 100x to 10 pg/mL.
