Integrated optofluidic Lab on a Chip on a polymer substrate: particles are passed through a porous filter to remove unwanted contaminants before being excited by an optical fiber, with fluorescence efficiently delivered to a photodiode via a Fresnel lens. The entire chip including microfluidic channel, fiber groove, porous filter and Fresnel lens is fabricated by femtosecond laser micromachining technology. (Picture: S. M.
