"In life, we constantly have to deal with others and any meeting is an experience, an event, an adventure, with all that it entails in risks and chances; in happy or unfortunate events : incidents, accidents, circumstances, opportunities, occasions, unforeseen events, setbacks, contingencies, coincidences, which place in our path choices, eventualities or alternatives, which, in their turn, lead our fate. What the determinists call fate and others name luck, fortune or even the fate of existence. And in clinical experience, if it was necessary to give a general idea of meeting, we would say that to meet is maybe simply to take the others just as they come to us and to take care of them as long as they need it, without jibbing at the task and without expecting anything in return. It is not an idea we have, it is an action from day to day. In this article, we offer a reflection in two phases. Firstly we shall evoke the place of meeting, through time and life, and secondly we shall approach the meeting from the clinical point of view and from our work experience as child psychiatrist."
