There are several concepts that are critical to effective development of a functional architecture that tend to be challenging to the new practitioner, even when they are experienced engineers. They are seldom discussed in the exiting literature addressing what functional architecture is and how to do modeling as part of it. This paper provides the most important of these points as seen both in the classroom and in practice.
