This paper presents a common industry approach to risk analysis, points out problems and pitfalls with it, and suggests ways to ameliorate them. Then it summarizes the main risks associated with incorporating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems into an existing commercial electric power grid. Finally, the paper explains the reason for frequency and severity normalization, presents the results of a sensitivity analysis and shows some possible unintended consequences of incorporating solar PV systems.
