In a series of papers to the INCOSE symposia under the banner of emergence, the author has introduced his audience to a variety of aspects of complex systems. The glue linking these together has been the fact that all systems exhibit properties, characteristics and attributes that can be collectively called emergent properties. Following this theme, this paper examines the issues that can arise when there is an assumption of a level of knowledge about a subject that is not backed up in reality.
