Telework is the application of information technology to enable workers to perform their jobs from home or other locations to avoid commuting through congested rush hour traffic. Successful telework solutions will provide the organization as well as the teleworker with the means to perform their job, potentially more efficiently than before, while achieving increased employee satisfaction, reducing facility costs for the employer, and reducing traffic congestion, fuel consumption, and green‐house gasses. This paper describes the concept of telework and outlines a systems engineering approach to implementation of telework solutions that extend beyond casual ad‐hoc instances.
