In a pair of papers in the 2007 Symposium the early history of systems engineering, from the perspective of the IRE publications was presented. This paper extends this work with a discussion of the early history of systems engineering from the perspective of other publications produced by engineers within the engineering community. This paper reviews the matters identified and compares the findings with the findings from the corpus reviewed earlier. The differences are discussed with a particular view to understanding why different parts of the engineering community came to different positions.
