The formulation of requirements continues to be a problem in systems engineering, despite considerable efforts over the last several decades and the emergence of a number of formalised languages. In this paper, we argue that a natural language, i.e. English, is still the most appropriate for most cases, and that it would be beneficial to concentrate more effort on ensuring the proper use of English rather than on inventing new formalisms to circumvent the perceived weaknesses of English.
