Recently, Rational wrote a white paper that introduces a derivative of the Rational Unified Process (RUP) that addresses the problem of system specification, analysis, design, and development. This paper describes an analysis of suitability of the extended RUP for use in the engineering of systems. A comparative analysis is performed between RUP and two systems engineering standards—ANSI/EIA 632 and the C4ISR Architecture Framework.
