Complexity is perhaps the single most cited cause of project failure. Complexity exists throughout the whole of the project lifecycle and is not always apparent until the project is running into difficulty. The aim of this paper is to present a suite of metrics that can be used to highlight complexity at all phases of the project lifecycle, rather than just after the system has been built. A basic assumption of the work is that all models for the system are represented using the industry standard Unified Modelling Language (UML).
