Systems engineering is applied during the development phase of a program. The continued application of systems engineering concepts during the production, post‐production and disposal phases can contribute significantly to program success. However, the resources available during development are frequently reassigned to other programs once serial production commences, and reduced even further during the post‐production and disposal phases. The introduction of systems engineering tools, even as late as the post‐production phase, can provide a resource multiplier that will allow continued and substantial system engineering support in the face of reduced systems engineering staffing. This paper addresses the implementation of a systems engineering tool late in the product lifecycle.
