This paper addresses several concurrent initiatives within the Royal Norwegian Navy Materiel Command, and how information available world‐wide have been utilised. This includes use of the Systems Engineering tool RDD‐100®, IEEE STD 1220–1994, results from NATO CALS, the SE‐CMM and SWOT analysis. The activities performed affect the Norwegian Navy's New Frigates project as a pilot for new processes and information management. The paper culminates in an integration of the initiatives into an overall interdisciplinary process‐model for future implementation of identified needs with respect to information handling in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Finally some lessons learned from the initiatives are addressed.
