“Systems of systems” differ from single systems in the way in which they are implemented and in how their implementation must be controlled. For this reason, the systems engineering processes necessary to ensure successful implementation of systems of systems differ in several important ways from the systems engineering processes typically applied to individual systems. A successful approach to implementing systems of systems requires a multi‐tiered set of systems engineering processes that builds upon the traditional single‐system approach.
