The Inland Empire Chapter (IEC) sponsored and created a Systems Engineering Certificate Program with the University of California, Riverside (UCR). The program outline and action plan was developed by the IEC and accepted by UCR College of Engineering and UCR Extension. The paper describes how the certificate program started in 1994 and the first series of courses was developed. The lessons learned from that Series I, ending March 1996, resulted in improvements made to the Series II courses which began September 1996. We will share our experiences and focus on the key areas that require the most attention in the hope that it will help other chapters when a systems engineering certificate program is developed in cooperation with a local educational institution.
