The current Air Traffic Management (ATM) system in the United States supports a wide variety of users in providing a safe and efficient air transportation system. The ATM system has to be responsive to the changing needs of its users. One of the challenges in the ATM system evolution is to design the evolution of a Decision Support System (DSS)/automation architecture. This paper proposes a framework and a common language for understanding the different aspects of a DSS architecture.
