Integrating the Environmental Management activities across the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) has involved a number of technical experts evaluating the existing system and plans with the facilitation, methodology, and tools of the INEL Systems Engineering organization. The use of the systems engineering methodology in the design and facilitatation the INEL EM integration activities is discussed. Additionally, the lessons learned in applying systems engineering to well‐entrenched organizations with many years of operations is relayed as was found in the INEL experience. The INEL EM Engineered Baseline definition and the process that will be used to mature the baseline at the INEL is discussed.
