This document details the research and development effort entitled “Development of an Approach to Alternative System Solution Capture and Evaluation.” This research discribes the development of a computer aided systems engineering capability for integrated development and evaluation of alternative system concepts. The described elements of this procedure include the following: development and capture of system evaluation measures, requirements and performance models; utility function development; architectural element modeling, system alternative assembly; and alternative system evaluation and selection. The document consists of a number of sections which address the problem, the value of solving the problem, the approach, a background survey, a developmental prototype, the preliminary results, and process and software illustration figures.
