One way to improve the practice of systems engineering is to baseline the best practices and assess organizations against the baseline. Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) is one of the nation's leaders in both developing baseline models and conducting assessments. During March through June 1994, the CSC Central Engineering Board (CEB) initiated the first systems engineering process self assessment (SEPA) using the National Council on Systems Engineering (NCOSE) Capability Assessment Working Group (CAWG) Systems Engineering Capability Assessment Model (SECAM). This paper summarizes those SEPA activities.
