This paper describes the architecture and characteristics of the Industrial Collaboration Systems Engineering Capability Maturity Model (IC SE‐CMM), and the application of the model to an organization in a pilot appraisal performed at Hughes Aircraft Company. The appraisal methodology is discussed both in general terms and the Hughes specific application. Findings from the appraisal are reviewed in general terms, as well as the lessons that were learned from performing the appraisal.
