This How‐To paper is for those persons newer to the global perspective of systems engineering. It describes adapting the formal software change control process of DOD‐STD‐2167A for use in improving a deficient hardware process as part of increasing its maturity of capability. After minor procedures and forms revision, while using identical computer support and physical paper handling to that of Software Problem Report processing, Requirements Management was improved. The experiment resulted in “earlier” correct specification of system design requirements, interface requirements, and design verification requirements for hardware configuration items.
