There are many alternative areas where the benefits of systems engineering can be applied. One of the premier emerging areas of structured design today is in the design or redesign of social systems. The redesign of the education system, as a social system, is a prime candidate for the application of systems engineering. New Generation Education (NGE) is a systems engineering project to simultaneously redesign and evolve education. The unique balances this project requires within the processes and procedures of systems engineering can do much to teach us how to tailor our profession to other emerging applications.
