The 1978–79 academic year marked the first fully operational year of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) validity study service. A summary of results is reported for 25 graduate management schools that participated in this first operational series of studies. Results include correlations of standard preadmission measures (GMAT scores and undergraduate grades) with a standard criterion (first‐year average) for all schools. Additional analyses based on school‐designated subgroups and on additional nonstandard preadmission measures and criteria are reported for schools that provided those optional data. The results indicate the potential value of each of various preadmission indices for predicting academic success in graduate management schools.
