Helmstadter's (1957) formulas for obtaining separate set and content components of a test score were modified for use with personality and attitude scales. The revised formulas for scoring content (C) and set (S) arec =R AN A+R BN B‐ 1 ,s =R AN A‐R BN B1 ‐ | c |,where R A is the number of items keyed A that are marked A by the respondent, R B , is the number of items keyed B and marked B, and N A and N B are the number of items keyed A and B, respectively.
