This paper is a critical survey of methods for analyzing the similarity between profiles. Among the measures of similarity examined are intraclass correlation, Cattell's r p , Cronbach and Gleser's distance measure, analysis of variance, Hotelling's T 2 , discriminant function, and Mahalanobis' D. An evaluation is made of each, some illustrative examples are given, and the relationships among several of them are presented.
