This paper introduces sunlight readable full color TFT LCD devices. By means of a novel Directional Light Guiding Film (DLGF) and a window structure, both the internal backlight and external sunlight can be used synergistically for lighting the display to deliver a superior readability in both indoor and outdoor applications. The internal backlight can be turned OFF or dimmed down automatically under the sunlight.
