Panel efficacy is one of the most important metrics in OLED lighting. We review strategies for outcoupling enhancement and propose a new device architecture: OLEDs with meshed cathodes to reduce energy loss to the metal cathode, otherwise known as loss to the metal surface plasmon polariton modes. The amount of outcoupling enhancement and practical implementation will be discussed.
