Paired comparison methodology is currently widely used in different fields, including display and lighting research. There are various approaches proposed for the calculation of z‐score and error‐bars. This paper summarizes and compares those approaches, on the respect of theory basis, calculation complexity, and performances. Especially it was proved in our study that generalized linear model, with proper observation distribution setting, provides the result derived from either traditional Thurstone Model or maximum likelihood estimation model.
