Hybrid operation of a locally desaturated field sequential color (FSC) multiprimary backlight with a subpixel rendered multiprimary color filtered liquid crystal display offers the potential for lower power consumption and higher color gamut than conventional local dimming RGB filtered LCD TV panels, while further reducing color break‐up compared to locally desaturated FSC LCD w/o color filters.
